Privacy Policy

The short version. Remember Me does not run a server that stores your personal data. Personas, interview answers, written memories, photos, and chat messages are stored on your iPhone. Chat is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, the app sends some information directly from your device to a third-party chat provider that you connect — we do not see, log, or proxy that traffic.

The Apple Watch companion is part of the same app. It receives a small, on-device copy of your memories from your paired iPhone over Apple's built-in WatchConnectivity. Nothing about your watch usage is sent to us.

1. What we do not collect

2. What happens when you use the app

On-device storage

Your data is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework. It lives in the app's sandbox on your iPhone. If you delete the app, or use "Delete all personas and chats" in Settings, the data is removed.

Apple Watch companion

If you have a paired Apple Watch, the iPhone app sends a small, on-device snapshot of your memories (compressed thumbnails plus captions) to the watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This transfer is peer-to-peer between your devices; nothing passes through a Remember Me server because there isn't one. Reflections you dictate on the watch are queued locally on the watch and delivered back to the iPhone the same way, where they become a memory you can read and edit. Deleting the iPhone app or unpairing the watch removes the watch's cached snapshot.

Chat provider (third-party AI service) — optional

Chat is an optional feature. It is off by default. The very first time you tap Send, the app shows a disclosure screen that explains what will be sent, where it will go, and what the provider does with it, and asks you to confirm before any data leaves the device. You can later revoke that consent at any time from Settings → Chat. While chat is off, the app runs as a fully on-device keepsake — nothing leaves your iPhone.

If you turn chat on and connect a chat provider, the following information is sent directly from your iPhone to that provider when you send a message:

Data categorySpecificallyPurpose
Persona profileThe persona's name, your stated relationship, the short description you wrote, your interview answers, and your written and pasted-text memories.Provides context so the provider can write a reply in the persona's voice.
Chat historyThe text of recent messages in this persona's thread.Allows the reply to follow the conversation.
New messageEach message you type in the composer. The prompt the provider replies to.
API keyThe chat provider key you pasted in Settings is attached to the request as the bearer token.Authenticates and bills the request to your own provider account.

Photos are never sent. The app sends only text.

Who the data is sent to. In Remember Me 1.0.1 the chat provider is OpenAI. Requests go to https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions. The data is sent directly from your iPhone to OpenAI; it does not pass through a Remember Me server because there isn't one. OpenAI handles your data according to OpenAI's privacy policy and the terms of your OpenAI account — please review those before turning chat on.

How consent works. The in-app disclosure must be agreed to before any data leaves the device. The disclosure summarizes this policy in plain language and links here. Consent is stored only on your iPhone (in UserDefaults) and can be revoked at any time in Settings → Chat. Turning chat off does not delete data already sent to the provider — only the provider can do that, under their policy.

Diagnostics

If you opt in to sending diagnostic data to Apple (Settings → Privacy → Analytics), Apple may share anonymized crash reports from our app with us.

2a. Remember Me Plus subscription

Plus is an optional in-app subscription that unlocks features built into Remember Me itself: on-device voice transcription using Apple's Speech framework, iCloud sync of your attachments across your Apple devices, and Apple Watch quick-capture. Plus is billed by Apple through your App Store account. We never receive your payment card details.

Plus is independent of the optional chat feature described in section 2. Chat remains free and requires you to bring your own external chat-provider account; we do not bundle, sell, or pay for chat-provider usage as part of Plus. You can use the app, and the chat feature, without Plus — and Plus without ever turning chat on.

Billing and cancellation. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation. The subscription auto-renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You manage or cancel it entirely through your Apple ID — on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in Remember Me under Settings → Subscription → Manage subscription. We cannot start, change, or cancel a subscription on your behalf.

We do not collect or analyse Plus subscriber data beyond what Apple reports in App Store Connect (anonymised aggregate counts such as total subscribers, churn, and upgrades). We do not know which keepsakes a Plus subscriber writes.

3. Tracking

Remember Me does not engage in tracking as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. The app does not request the IDFA. We do not link your data to data collected by other companies for advertising, attribution, or measurement.

4. Children's privacy

Remember Me is rated 17+ and is not intended for users under 17. The app shows an age confirmation at first launch. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction).

5. Your rights

Because we do not hold your data, we cannot export it or delete it on your behalf — but you can, at any time, from within the app:

If you live in the EU/UK, California, or another jurisdiction with privacy rights, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and restrict processing of personal data. Remember Me does not process personal data on its own servers, so for in-app data the actions above are the operative controls. For any other request, email support@randyplaice.com and we will respond within 30 days. For data already sent to a chat provider, please contact that provider directly under their policy.

6. Third parties

7. Security

No system is perfect. If you suspect a security issue, please email support@randyplaice.com.

8. Remember Me is not a crisis service

Remember Me is a private tool for processing memory and loss. It is not a medical device, not a mental-health service, and not a substitute for a human being. If you are in crisis, please call 988 (US), text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line), or visit findahelpline.com for international resources.

9. Changes to this policy

We will post material changes here and update the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will also notify you in-app on next launch.
